Eye Muscle Movement

Eye movements are performed by 6 extraocular muscles innervated by 3 cranial nerves.

Cranial nerve 4 innervates the superior oblique muscle, cranial nerve 6 innervates the abducens nerve, and cranial nerve 3 innervates the rest of the extraocular muscles.

The extraocular muscles have several motor movements apart from the medial and lateral rectus which can only move the eye in one direction in the horizontal plane.
